First of all, apologies for the lapse in communication on this page. We have been consumed, for the past 4 or 5 months, with the planning and execution of a 25-state tree planting tour of the U.S.

Plant a Wish, once the name of our commemorative tree planting gift program, has now blossomed into a tour and documentary film project. Our goal is to plant at least one native tree in all 50 states and make a film about the journey and the things we’ve learned. To check out all of the details of that project, please visit www.plantawish.org
The core beliefs of the permaculture movement permeate a lot of the things we learned and will likely bring to light in our film. We are excited to share it all with you soon!
If this sounds like your cup of tea, follow Plant a Wish on Facebook, on Twitter, and check out the website to keep informed of events related to that project.
In the meantime, The Permaculture Group continues to work in the Maui community doing land restoration, gathering information, and encouraging local land stewards to keep the ecosystem in balance as they farm or develop their lands.
Also, keep an eye out in early Fall for announcements related to our 4th Annual Planting Christmas Live Native Christmas tree project.
Happy Summer!

Happy New Year from The Permaculture Group!
Because of our efforts and your open minds, there are now dozens of native Christmas trees being planted on Maui! If you’ve got photos of your decorated native Christmas tree (like our endangered kului pictured at left), please send them to us! We’d also love to see photos of them once they are planted in the ground.
If you need advice or help planting your native Christmas tree, don’t hesitate to call 808-250-1469 for a free consultation.
And stay tuned for an exciting announcement coming on January 18th!

Plenty of Live, Native Christmas Trees Still Available!
According to the Maui News (cover story, Dec 17, 2009), Maui has zero mainland Christmas trees available. The demand for holiday trees continues, and residents are forced to consider other options. The decisions you make can reduce the detrimental effects of of shipping goods to the islands, including dangeroud carbon emissions and invasive species introduction.
There are plenty of live, native Christmas trees available, though, which have many benefits not found in imported or even locally grown pine trees:
- Native trees are generally better for the environment (click here to see a video explaining why, and featuring plenty of gorgeous native trees!)
- Purchasing a locally-grown tree keeps your dollars circulating locally – which stimulates the local economy.
- Living trees end up planted in the ground, providing you with a lifetime of beauty and shade.
- Planting a native tree helps to restore the local ecosystem, which is very important for our island’s survival.
Sometimes traditions must change to fit with the times – and considering the boost that our local economy and environment needs, we think it’s a no-brainer! Make your Christmas tree a living, locally grown, native one…and plant your holiday tree for a change!
